Biography

Mateusz Kusznierewicz began his sailing career in 1984 at the age of 9 during a summer holiday sailing camp at the Zegrze Lake. Since then, the discipline has become his passion.

His first yacht was Optimist. The first major success on the international stage was a junior level OK-Dinghy class world championship in 1990. He is a double Olympic medalist, twice an individual world champion in Finn class and the world champion in Star class, a five-time individual champion of Europe. A national multi-medalist: ten-times a Polish champion in Finn class, three times in Star class. For 19 years he was a member of the Polish Yachting Association Olympic team. He was awarded the title of “Sailor of all time“ at the end of 2004.

He began racing in 1992 in the Olympic Finn class, and since 2005 has competed in Star class. Ended his olympic career after the Olympic Games in London in 2012, without giving up the sport altogether. Currently, successfully competing in the prestigious Star Sailors League regatta in the crew with Dominik Życki.

Mateusz Kusznierewicz is also involved in social activities. Among his initiatives, there are many events promoting sports and sailing, including Maritime Education Programme and sailing race for the Neptune’s Amber Cup. Kusznierewicz is also the commander of the Baltic Sail ship rally. Was the President of the Gdansk Foundation in 2013-2016. Founder of the Navigare Foundation, implementing, among others, programmes to develop talents and fulfill dreams.

A golf lover. In November 2013 years he was honoured with the 20th Anniversary of the Polish Golf Association award, as an ambassador of the sport in Poland.
A fulfilled husband and father.
Currently involved in preparations for the cruise around the world on an ocean sailing yacht under the Polish flag.

In 2004, he was honoured with the title of “Sailor of all time.”
